Whitney Museum of American Art- The Whitney focuses on 20th- and 21st-century American art. Its permanent collection comprises more than 21,000 paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, photographs, films, videos, and artifacts of new media by more than 3,000 artists. It places a particular emphasis on exhibiting the work of living artists for its collection as well as maintaining an extensive permanent collection containing many important pieces from the first half of the last century.
The Frick Collection-The Frick is one of the pre-eminent small art museums in the United States, with a high-quality collection of old master paintings and fine furniture housed in six galleries within the former residence. Frick had intended the mansion to eventually become a museum. Many of the paintings are still arranged according to Frick's design. Besides its permanent collection, the Frick has always organized small, focused temporary exhibitions.
The Met Breuer- is a museum of modern and contemporary art in New York City that is part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Met Breuer opened in March 2016 in the building formerly occupied by the Whitney Museum of American Art and designed by Marcel Breuer. Its works come from the Metropolitan Museum of Art collection and are both monographic and thematic exhibitions.
