Thank you for your interest in Lao UNY's inaugural Winter Gala! If you could not purchase a ticket or would like to make an additional contribution, it is still possible to support Legacies of War, a beneficiary of 'A Winter Gala'.
Here at Legacies of War, we believe that all Lao children have the right to grow up and play in a safe environment without fear of unexploded bomblets. During the Vietnam War, the United States dropped more than two million tons of bombs on Laos - more munitions than were dropped on Germany and Japan combined during World War II. More than 25 percent of these bombs never exploded. Every year, more than 50 Lao men, women and children are wounded or killed. More than 15,000 survivors are waiting for help.
We are a small organization with BIG DREAMS. We dream of the day when the millions of lethal bombs left behind by the U.S. air war in Laos will be destroyed. We dream of villagers tilling their soil in safety and Lao children playing in their school yards without fear. But we are not just dreaming. We have a proven track record of advocacy in the halls of Congress, resulting in significant new increases of direct US funding for demining in Laos. Thanks to your generosity, our education and advocacy work is achieving results!

WHAT IS LAO UNY?
LAO UNY simply stands for Lao Upstate New York, but it's aim is not simple at all. It is a community organization based in Rochester, NY with a focus on empowering, educating and enriching the lives of second generation Lao immigrants and refugees. As the first generation of Lao immigrants and refugees are retiring, LAO UNY is filling the need for the next generation of Lao immigrants & community supporters to lead in preserving Lao culture and traditions so that it can continue to be celebrated and shared with future generations. In addition, LAO UNY hopes that they will also have the opportunity to share the beauty of Lao culture with other local evolving and diverse communities in Upstate.
